Abua is an Efut clan of Calabar South. The plate renders a fishing net, the estuary trade of the Efut.

History

Abua is a senior clan of the Efut nation, its people descended from the Balondo seafarers who crossed from Usak Edet and settled the ground that became Calabar South. The net was their inheritance: the Efut were the estuary's fishermen before they were anything else, working the tidal water with a skill carried from the Cameroon coast. Rooted today in Efut Abua's wards within the city, the clan sits in the council of eight under the Muri Munene, its cast-net livelihood remembered every time the plate is read.
