History

Ediba stands among the fourteen clans of the Ejagham Qua nation in Calabar, and its plate carries the instrument the Ejagham world spoke through: the slit drum, whose tones carried Mgbe summons, warnings and praise across the forest faster than any runner. Drum language was the Ejagham's second script beside Nsibidi — sound and sign, both older than the alphabet on this coast. Ediba's own voice endures the same way: a clan of the Qua federation under its Ntoe, its name still sounding in the roll of the fourteen.
