The western marches were won on horseback. The Alibawa are a jihad clan of the Sokoto–Zamfara country whose horsemen rode the western campaigns — swordsmen of the open savanna where the caliphate's frontier was made and held. Theirs is the plate of the cavalry: no throne, no book, just the charge.
