History

Eki settled the crossing country where the footpaths of the Efik, Ibibio and Qua worlds met — junction ground, where a clan's fortune was made by who passed through rather than what lay beneath. In the estuary economy such crossroads settlements were the connective tissue of the trade: relay points for produce heading to the beach markets and for goods moving inland. Eki's place in the Efik nation is that of the junction keeper — small on the map, essential to the network, remembered wherever the old paths are traced.
