The Katsinawa of Zaria are Katsina men who took root in Zazzau — a second royal house in the turning succession of the emirate, alternating the throne with the Bornawa and their peers. Their name carries their origin; their standing was earned in the city they adopted.

The plate is a star register: rows of eight-point stars — the northern emblem — with one in gold for the house whose turn came.
