History

Ukem carried the hunter's craft of the Balondo forests into the Efut nation's new country, working the bush behind the waterside settlements for game, bushmeat and the medicines of the deep forest. In Efut life the hunter ranked with the fisherman as a founder-provider — the one who knew the land as the other knew the water — and hunting lineages carried their own rites and standing within the clans. Ukem's plate follows the track because that is a hunter's signature: proof of passage, read by those trained to see it.
