South of the caliphate's heartland lay Fombina — "the southlands" — where Modibo Adama carried the flag and the great pastoral clans followed. The Wolarɓe were chief among them: herding lords of the Adamawa country whose lamiɓe (chiefs) raised courts and sub-emirates along the Benue beneath the highlands, grazing the richest wet-season grass in the caliphate.

The plate reads as highland contours crossed by a single planted sawru — the herder's staff, gold against the ridgelines, authority stated the Fulɓe way.
