History

Ekondo is the clan whose name never let go of home: it stands in the Efut count at Calabar and echoes across the water in Ekondo-Titi on the Cameroon coast, twin marks of one Balondo people divided by a crossing and later by a colonial border. That border — drawn between British and German spheres in the 1880s and confirmed at independence — cut through Efut kinship without erasing it; canoes, marriages and ceremony kept the two shores in conversation. Ekondo's plate faces the shores toward each other because that is the clan's truth: one name, one people, two coastlines.
