History

Eniong took the creek country where Enyong Creek winds toward the Cross River, settling the waterway that connected the Efik world to the Ibibio and Aro hinterland. That creek was one of the busiest inland routes of the trading era — produce, people and news moved along it between the interior markets and the estuary towns, and Eniong sat astride the passage. A clan of the Efik nation living on Ibibio-facing water, Eniong embodies the estuary's truth: boundaries there were drawn in current, not stone.
